Most of our patients at Ross Family Dentistry require twice-yearly exams and dental cleanings to maintain healthy smiles. However, those with periodontal disease or risk factors for other dental problems may need more frequent dental visits.

Here is a look at what you may expect during your dental exam and cleaning visit:

• Dental Exam: We typically take digital dental X-rays and perform a visual evaluation of your gums, teeth, oral cavity, and any dental restorations to rule out any concerns. Early detection is key to prompt treatment, preventing any problem from progressing and requiring extensive treatments down the road.
• Oral Cancer Screening: During your routine check-ups, we evaluate your mouth and surrounding tissues to rule out any warning signs of oral cancer. Detecting cancer in its earliest stages significantly improves the chances of survival.
• Dental Cleaning: We use an electronic scaler to gently blast away plaque and tartar from your teeth and gum line, followed by flossing and polishing your teeth. Regular dental cleanings help lower your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and bad breath.
• Fluoride Treatment: We typically recommend fluoride treatment after your dental cleaning to strengthen your tooth enamel and lower your risk of cavities. Fluoride continues to be one of the most effective tools in the ongoing battle against tooth decay.
• Custom Treatment Plan: After your exam and cleaning, we will discuss any concerns we uncover and may recommend preventive or restorative care to help you maintain optimal oral health. We always recommend the most conservative treatment options to keep you smiling your best.
